There has been a fan march following a report that Warner Bros. Discovery isn't allowing The Briscoes from appearing on AEW TV due to homophobic comments made by
Jay Briscoes in the past.
A decade ago, Briscoes made an anti-gay comment to which he repeatedly apologized and had privately done things to learn from his mistake. Even after making an apology, Warner Bros. Discovery still doesn't want Mark Briscoe on their television which is completely a tool to enrage the fans.
However, fans were expecting to see Warner Bros. Discovery meltdown after Jay's passing and they will come up with a change of heart to allow his brother Mark Briscoe to sing with AEW. Apprently, that's not the case, Warner Bros. Discovery is still sticking with its decision.
On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer was asked to give an update on the situation. Dave Meltzer said that he knows the answer and it's "no."
"I already know the answer," Meltzer said. "The answer is no. I can't tell you more. It could change but that's the answer." Meltzer continued, "Hopefully it'll change but that is the answer. It could change. Hopefully, it does change. It's a very bad answer. Perhaps there will be a furor that it'll change. It should change, of course."
AEW did pay tribute via a graphic honoring
Briscoes prior to the start of Dynamite. Wrestlers came to the ring during the show wearing armbands with the words “Briscoe” and “Jay”. As noted, an ROH
Jay Briscoe's Celebration Of Life was indeed tapped on January 18, 2023, after AEW Dynamite and Rampage from the Save Mart Center in Fresno, CA.
There will be some kind of memorial for Jay at the SuperCard of Honor PPV in March.
