Rey Mysterio suffered a defeat at the hands of LA Knight on the most recent episode of WWE SmackDown due to interference from his son, Dominik Mysterio. Dominik once again challenged his father to a match at WrestleMania 39, while also attempting to guilt him for his perceived lack of courage.
Despite Rey's refusal, Dominik persisted in challenging his father to a match at WrestleMania 39, accusing him of being a weakling and unworthy of their family name. In an attempt to add fuel to the fire, Dominik began to insult Rey's wife and daughter, who were watching the match from ringside, hurling vulgar slurs at them and calling them deadbeats.
Rey had finally reached his breaking point, and he marched back to the ring to confront his son and teach him a lesson in respect. Rey stated that Dominik's behavior had forced his hand and that if he desired to compete at WrestleMania, he would oblige.
At WWE Clash at the Castle, Dominik first betrayed his father by joining forces with Judgment Day (consisting of Finn Balor, Rhea Ripley, & Damian Priest). Since then, Dominik has persistently attempted to provoke his father into engaging in a physical altercation with him.
