Jon Moxley vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi for the Interim AEW World Heavyweight Championship is set to be the headliner for Sunday's AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door pay-per-view event.

The event would originally see CM Punk defending the AEW World Heavyweight Title against Tanahashi but was nixed when Punk suffered a leg injury and had to undergo surgery.

AEW booked an interim title series with the show's final, where Moxley defeated Kyle O'Reilly to qualify for the match, while Tanahashi won his qualifying bout at Dominion.

Dave Meltzer reported in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the original plan was for Moxley to be in the six-man tag team match which includes Shota Umino & Wheeler Yuta & Eddie Kingston vs. Chris Jericho & Sammy Guevara & Minoru Suzuki.

It is believed that once Punk is ready to return, he will face the interim AEW World Heavyweight Champion to crown the undisputed AEW World Champion.
