The winner of Jon Moxley vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi has apparently been revealed for AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door.
AEW and New Japan's first crossover event, Forbidden Door, will be headlined by Jon Moxley vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi for the interim AEW World Championship. This was initially supposed to match CM Punk and Hiroshi Tanahashi.
However, On the June 3 episode of Rampage, Punk announced that he would need surgery and take time off. AEW owner Tony Khan had informed Punk he would not have to relinquish the championship. On the June 8 episode of Dynamite, Kyle O'Reilly won the Casino Battle Royale and was defeated by Moxley, who advanced to Forbidden Door. At Dominion, Tanahashi defeated Goto, setting up NJPW's half of the match.
Hiroshi Tanahashi has the chance to become the first non-AEW star to hold the promotion's world title. Meanwhile, Jon Moxley has the opportunity to become the first-ever two-time All Elite Wrestling World Champion.
