With a total of 146 recognized reigns between 54 champions and 11 vacancies (including 4 reigns, 2 people, and 2 vacancies not recognized by WWE), the championship has a rich and storied history.

Among its many impressive records, Bruno Sammartino holds the record for the longest single reign with a staggering 2,803 days, while also holding the record for the longest combined reign at 4,040 days. John Cena has the most reigns with an impressive 13, and nine men in history have held the championship for a continuous reign of one year (365 days) or more.

The current champion, Roman Reigns, is in his fourth reign and has solidified himself as one of the most dominant champions in recent history. His most recent victory over Brock Lesnar in a Winner Takes All match to unify the WWE Championship and Universal Championship at WrestleMania 38 cemented his place as the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion, a title that remains active and highly coveted in the industry.
