Will Ospreay defeated Shota Umino to successfully retain the IWGP United States Championship at NJPW x Stardome Historic X-Over. After the match ended, Kenny Omega made a surprising appearance by appearing on the big screen.
Omega said that Ospreay was there to replace him when he left in 2019, but he was unsuccessful and Omega is knocked off. He said that he had received a call from NJPW and would return on January 4 at Wrestle Kingdom 17 to face Will Ospreay in a match for the fans.
Ospreay was there to accept the challenge. However, It wasn't made clear if the IWGP US Championship would be on the line.
