CM Punk is a world champion for the first time in over nine years, since January 2013.
The match was highly personal with storytelling that was as compelling as the hard-hitting action inside the ring, with hangman Adam Page holding on to his championship belt in the middle of the match and telling Punk that it would never be his.
During the match, Page was conflicted about Punk using the belt as a weapon but he threw the belt and tried a buckshot lariat but Punk countered in the GTS and he pinned Page to win the title.
AEW Double Or Nothing 2022 took place on May 29, 2022, at the T-Mobile Arena on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada. The inaugural winners of the men's and women's Owen Hart Cup were crowned at the event.
